11:11 Promise (In Loving Memory of Avery Canahuati)
In 2012, our daughter Avery’s life and battle with Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) received worldwide attention through her blog (Avery's Bucket List). Avery reached over 7 million people and raised over $1.5 million while being a lead cause for fast tracking a potential cure for SMA through the FDA and into children.
Since Avery's passing on April 30, 2012, our family has tried to figure out how we can further honor
her life – beyond making her a big sister and being loving and proud parents to her siblings.
Our “11:11 Promise” – in honor of Avery’s birthday, November 11, 2011 – allows
us to further incorporate Avery’s life, spirit, and story into our everyday
interactions while giving back to our community and bringing more awareness
to Spinal Muscular Atrophy.
